Hi, I’m Ulaş. I’m a network and systems engineer.
How I started
I studied Computer Engineering at Erciyes University and graduated in 2025. I was into cybersecurity first and used to solve CTFs in my spare time. At some point I realized my networking fundamentals were weak, so I started digging into the network side. I also got curious about one simple question: how does the internet actually reach my home? That curiosity pulled me into networking, and the rest followed. I built my foundation with CCNA: switching, routing and wireless.
What I do
I work as a network and systems engineer on enterprise and public-sector projects. My daily work covers Aruba, Cisco and HPE switches, FortiGate and Sophos firewalls, wireless deployments and 802.1X with ClearPass. VMware/Hyper-V virtualization and Zabbix monitoring are part of it too. The most important thing I’ve learned in the field: most problems don’t come from something complicated, they come from a simple thing you skipped.
Where I’m heading
I’m putting my energy into transport networking, an area I’m especially interested in. I’m very curious how traffic is carried across an operator’s backbone. I don’t have professional experience in this field yet and I’m not hiding it. That’s why I spend my free time in the lab: I build MPLS, LDP, OSPF, iBGP and VXLAN/EVPN labs with Nokia SR OS in GNS3. Alongside that I’m studying for Huawei HCIA and Fortinet NSE4.
Why this blog exists
I like learning by writing, and I think if I can’t write something down, I haven’t really learned it. I write down where I got stuck and how I solved it. It’s a note to myself, and I hope it helps someone on the same path. The posts only use examples from my own lab environment, no customer or organization information.
Outside the screen
I work out regularly, play PC games and listen to rap and rock/metal. I practice English with those songs too, and I read technical documentation comfortably.
